Mitz began her rowing career at Rollins College, in 1984, and learned to scull during her summers home in Philadelphia on the Schuylkill River. After College, and a move to Connecticut, Mitz competed at the US Rowing National Team Trials for the lightweight singles and doubles in 1992 and ’93 as well as providing private sculling lessons and competing in several marathons and triathlons during those years and throughout the 90’s.
In 2001 she took a full time Assistant Coach position at The University of Wisconsin and then promptly returned to Connecticut in 2002 and that is where she first started working with Liz Trond coaching the Junior High School program at Norwalk River Rowing. Except for the year at Wisconsin Mitz has been working full-time in the Health Insurance and Employee Benefits space and from 2003 to 2009 she focused on her career and gave private sculling lessons in the summer.
In 2009 Mitz joined the Trinity College Women’s Rowing staff as the 3rd Varsity Coach and helped the team secure a Division III NCAA National Championship in 2014, and then left in 2015 to become the Head Girls Coach of the Hopkins Rowing Program. Mitz joined the Connecticut Boat Club staff as an Assistant Coach in 2020 and has loved helping young women improve their rowing skills.
Mitz has been a member of the New Haven Rowing Club on the Housatonic River where she has served for nearly 20 years on the board, and as Vice President and President. She continues to compete in her single every year at all of the fall head races, including the Head of the Charles, as well as currently serving as the President of the Board of Directors for the Canal Dock Boathouse in New Haven which offers a youth rowing program for public school students.
