Who it’s for

One team, two squads.

Athletes who have rowed before, and new rowers and coxswains at the coaches’ discretion. The two squads practice together and race in most of the same events. The coaches place each new athlete based on her experience and fitness, and joining mid-season is by evaluation.

Squad

Novice

For athletes in their first year of racing, including brand-new rowers and coxswains the coaches place here. A novice races Novice for her first year and can also race Varsity.

Squad

Varsity

For athletes with at least one year of racing. Varsity athletes race in both sweep and sculling events every season.

When we practice

Practice times

SeasonDaysTime
Fall and springMonday to Friday, plus Saturday mornings3:30 to 6:30 PM
WinterUp to six days a week3:45 to 5:45 PM on weekdays
SummerUp to five mornings a week7:00 to 10:00 AM

Not every athlete comes every day. Coxswains and younger athletes have the flexibility to come fewer days, and summer works around family vacations: there is no racing, the focus is technique in smaller boats, and athletes are encouraged to cross-train. We can also adjust times for athletes who live farther away or get out of school later.
