Two Fish Heads and Nine Medals for CBC at the Head of the Fish

Just like that, the fall racing season is over. The River Rats closed it out at the Head of the Fish in Saratoga Springs on October 24 and 25, where a brief fog delay gave way to a perfect fall Sunday, brisk and sunny with light wind, and 18 CBC crews came home with nine medals and two Fish Heads. Norwalk’s Kylie McCoy and Westport’s Lia Coats, Harper Do and Chloe Katzner won the Freshman/Novice Quad by 37 seconds over a 21-boat field, and the U16/Novice Four A boat, coxed by Westport’s Abigail D’Arcy with Wilton’s Hana Lee, Ridgefield’s Sloane Keane and Darien’s Emily Goertel and Grace Mickels, won its 23-boat race by 12 seconds.

The novice quad set the tone early Sunday, finishing more than half a minute clear of Narragansett. The 2V eight held off host Saratoga for silver by 2 seconds, and the varsity coxed quad took bronze in the last race of the day, 8 seconds behind a winner decided by a tenth of a second. Sloane Keane shared, “This weekend was a memorable way to conclude my U16 racing. My teammates and I raced really hard but also had a lot of fun!” Coach Liz Trond put it this way: “I am so proud of our athletes who all raced two events Sunday, some racing three! We are one of the few teams racing both sweep and scull at a high level, and teaching athletes to be competent and confident in every single rowing event.”

Thank you to coaches, van and trailer drivers, the parent tent volunteers and the Saratoga Rowing Association for another incredible regatta.
