Camilla Calderwood

Camilla Calderwood, CBC captain

Camilla began rowing in the winter of her freshman year after dancing as her main sport for ten years. She is a Senior at Greens Farms Academy.

Career Highlights:

Thanks to the excellent coaching by Jim Sweitzer, Camilla was lucky enough to stroke the Novice 8 and row in the 1V8 during her sophomore fall, and her novice boats were undefeated that fall season.

In Camilla’s sophomore spring season, she rowed in the 1V8 at the San Diego Crew Classic. Although Camilla had planned to race in the 4- at Northeast Regionals that year, the event was canceled due to weather, so Youth Nationals was her first time racing in the 4-. Camilla and her teammates were thrilled to win silver.

Last year, during Camilla’s junior year, rowing highlights included rowing the 4+ at Head of the Charles to finish 11th, racing the 1V8 at the San Diego Crew Classic again, and competing in the 4- at Youth Nationals for a 9th place finish. After Youth Nats, Camilla was so excited to be invited to spend the summer at the Junior National Team selection camp in Chula Vista. At the camp, Camilla was thrilled to be selected for the team and rowed in the 8+ for Team USA, placing 5th at the U-19 World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, an unforgettable rowing and lifetime experience.

Favorite Part About CBC:

Camilla loves so many things about CBC, including:

  • Rio Trond, the ultimate boathouse dog, with honorable mention to Coco Trond.
  • The great friendships and funny memories she shares with so many of the other girls at CBC
  • The impressively vast and wildly supportive network of CBC alums who are so willing to help with college questions, rowing advice, and lifelong support
  • The emphasis on small boat technique and the opportunities to expand your rowing toolbox (Port, starboard, sweep, scull, stroke, bow: everyone has the chance to learn it all.)
  • Most of all, Camilla is incredibly grateful for the outstanding coaching staff, including Jim Sweitzer for teaching her how to row as a novice, Steve B who provides a wonderful combination of rowing instruction, humor, and good vibes, and especially Liz Trond, who has taught Camilla to become a strong rower with good technique, and, more importantly, to love the sport of rowing, and whom Camilla sees as a lifelong advisor, mentor, and friend.
